Race Recap: Joe’s 3:13 at the Paris Marathon

Joe is an active cyclist and runner, and has completed several marathons over the past few years. He trains with Kaizen, including most recently to a PB of 3:13 at the 2023 Paris Marathon. He shares some of his experiences with us below.

Why do you run?

For how it makes me feel in every day life.

How did you get into running?

I have been running marathons most years since 2017. More recently I’ve tried to extend into ultra marathons.

How was your race at the Paris Marathon?

I was really happy with the race, for once I actually paced it reasonably well and ran my first negative split marathon (just). My Kaizen race prediction was as 3h23m and I ran a 3h13.

(NB: Joe’s previous marathons weren’t executed as well as his Paris effort, which is why Kaizen predicted a time 10 minutes slower than his performance on the day).

How does Kaizen influence your training?

It gamified it for me - I loved following my progress on a weekly basis, building my streak and seeing volume grow and race prediction reduce. It was so simple to understand and interact with.

Next marathon and goal?

I would love to go sun 3h at some point in the next 12 months.
